The activities on the framework of non-formal education on eco and agro tourism were held in Berat, Albania. Participants shared a week of intensive theoretical and practical training, sharing of experiences, visits to the sites of interest on the field of eco and agro tourism etc. The activities lasted one week (15 th – 19 th November 2018), and it started with the preparation of a friendlier environment for everyone; the participants introduced themselves as well as the hosting organization, in this case Famullia Shen Luka Ungjilltar of Berat. All the participants visited the premises of daily service center “Ku mirësia është”, the Old Town and fortress so everyone could know a bit more about the city.

After the traditional introduction, our participants get more information about the culture of Berat, as well as more eco and agro tourism oriented activities like visiting the Etnographic museum, built in an old traditional house with two floors and the artisans’ center Margarita. Lunch was tasted in a typical agro tourism in Roshnik village near Berat that serves traditional and local food from the area. Apart from the restaurant there is also the winery in where we could all taste the local products together with dried figs and homemade cheese. Continuing the practical experience on this field, the municipality’s representative responsible for the projects on tourism held a meeting with the participants in order to give a broader idea on the projects that the municipality has already taken and is also aiming to undertake in the near future in order to help tourism get to a higher level and increase in numbers and quality of the services offered.

The practical experience continues with visits to the natural heritages and parks such as Osumi Canyons, the most famous area of the region and an ideal place for eco-tourism, developed by the only restaurant present in the area and the owners are fond of developing an example of eco and sustainable tourism. They use recycled and nature friendly furniture and equipment, and also the products that they offer are also nature friendly. In order to have a broader horizon on this are too, there was held a meeting with the representatives from the municipality of Çorovoda, the office for tourism development.

Having seen everything in practice, the participants are now ready to complete their formation with the training of Non Formal Education (NFE). An expert trainer was invited who arranged activities in such a way that all the participants were involved and shared their opinions and experiences. The third part of the session was dedicated to the methods of implementation of Non Formal Education for Sustainable Tourism Practices. Apart from the standard theoretical part there was also used materials from Hector Project and there was also made a presentation with the Responsible tourism festival. This session was highly interactive including videos, website and tools to help better explain and understand NFE methods applied to sustainable tourism. All these lectures were followed by workshops and group exercises in order to better memorize and understand the concepts.

The remained day was followed by intensive training also, reconnecting with the previous day end continuing to enrich the horizons of the participants. Theory that was transmitted was then enriched by many examples provided from the trainer, followed as well by practical exercises on organizing the NFE event of 2019.

To conclude the lectures, the trainer had prepared a sharing process followed by peer to peer evaluation and comments from all of the participants. The final closure included also remarks and feedback from the trainer as well.

The late afternoon was then organized from the youngsters of the parish, in a festive context to the successful conclusion of the training.
